Microcosms and Schisms

Projects

MICROCOSMS AND SCHISMS comprises of a series of trains circulating on four concentric train tracks, at varying heights. Each train pulls a series of mobile models, that critically reflect on the theme “How we Live Together” in the context of New York during a global pandemic. We thought of New York as a collection of worlds; as a constellation of controlled microcosms; carefully constructed spaces of urban interiority and containment of climates, of ecologies, of bodies. The four trains present critical readings of such New York interiorities and the transgressions and breaches that characterize them: DEEP SEGREGATION as manifest in the facade and the politics of the envelope; PARK AND RECREATION, as spaces of manufactured wilderness and urban collectivity; MICROCLIMATES, as spaces of climatic control and environmental inequality; and SANCTUARY ARCHITECTURE, as the city's sites of sanctuary and transnational solidarity. The installation reflects our mental journeys during the states of immobility and renders the absurdity of confinement.
